A bit of magic

Magic always touches us when unbidden and least expected. In spite of what the fairy tales and Harry Potter tell us, we cannot conjure it up for ourselves. – Susan Hill.

It’s both true and not true but not at the same time, if you catch my drift. When I need a bit of magic I set out in that direction, and what I find is always surprising. Like finding something surprising when walking in the neighbourhood I have lived for over two decades, or in the city I have called home all my life. It throws up something new and yet there’s this warmth of the familiar – the best of both worlds. Knowing oft walked streets can still surprise you, that in their nooks and crannies there are secrets waiting to be discovered, is nothing short of miraculous. Sometimes water springs out for the first time from a project that you have been witness to, and puts up a glorious show spraying a fine mist all around astounding the Sunday people in the park. We drop all pretense and just gawp in unison like children. I have fever felt so connected to humanity as a whole as I did in that moment which was strangely life affirming.
